Beacon Centre and Day Service curriculum
Beacon students
Students who are inpatients at The Beacon Centre are enrolled at Northgate School and have access to education during their admission. We work closely with the young person’s home school to ensure that they can continue to access their work but we also offer a core curriculum and personal development lessons in order to re-engage students in education. Every young person at The Beacon Centre has a link teacher from Northgate School, who they meet with weekly in order to support their education during and post admission. Each young person at the Beacon Centre has a timetable which is reviewed weekly in conjunction with the suggestions of the clinical team. This ensures that their educational and medical needs are being met. Every Beacon student has access to the following core curriculum. This is in addition to support from their main school provider.
- Maths
- English
- Science
- Yoga
- PE
- PSHE
- General studies
- Unit Awards
- Art
Our teachers are familiar with a range of GCSE specifications to enable us to facilitate those working on areas outside of our specific curriculum.
The Beacon Day Service is for young people who can manage their safety in the community but require additional support to avoid escalation into inpatient care. We also offer a ‘step-down' service, for young people who have completed an episode of inpatient care and treatment, this young person will be ready to access community services with additional support from the day service to aid the smooth transition out of tier 4 CAMHS services and promote positive outcomes. These young people follow the day school curriculum but receive additional support mentioned above from the Beacon Centre team.
